Welcome to the First Planet Mu Update of 2011

  • Posted by: Thomas on Jan 16, 2011

Our first release of the year is '14 tracks from Planet Mu' - a compilation highlighting some of the the new artists on the label over the last year, with four exclusive new tracks and some previously 12" only releases. It's a stellar compilation which deserves your attention, and a good placemark of how much Mu has developed recently. It's out on 31st January and comes at a bargain sampler price.

FaltyDL releases his second LP for Planet Mu - 'You Stand Uncertain' on 14th March; this album evolves hugely from his last work. From the very start the listener is plunged into his new focus on layered dusty atmospheres, taking cues from house and hip hop, and working it into balmy textures and dusty breaks, creating variation and depth in a style all of his own.

We continue our Footwork crusade with an EP -'Man I Do It' from DJ Spinn in late Feb, followed by an EP in April and an album in May from mutant juke artist Chrissy Murderbot, that has an accessable and fun edge to it that may win over a lot of new fans, and it innovates possible directions for the ghetto house sound and it's web of genre spin-offs.

April sees the return of Boxcutter too - with an album that shows a radical change in his work (more on that in the future), 'The Dissolve' is released in late April, but his first single 'Allele' comes out in early March.

We also have an EP by Venetian Snares entitled 'Cubist Reggae', which will defy any stereotypes you have about Snares' work. Talking of Snares - his label Timesig has an EP by Speed Dealer Moms out later this month after some technical delays, that's his group with John Frusciante and Chris McDonald, plus an album by Otto Von Schirach is confirmed for later in the year. Venetian Snares will be touring Europe throughout March.

Live bits and pieces we'd like you to come to, two London debuts from New Artists:

Wed 19th Jan 2011 - Solar Bears live and Mike Paradinas DJ - Free at Rough Trade, Brick Lane, London 6.30pm

Friday 4th Feb 2011 - Tropics and Seji live, Alibi, Kingsland Road, Dalston, London - Free too

We're also just putting the finishing touches to a European tour of Footwork DJ's and some dancers too - more information as things get confirmed on that.
